Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler for the 2005 Season

At the conclusion of each college wrestling season, WrestlingReport.com selects its Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year.  This annual recognition goes to a wrestler who is both a Pennsylvania native and competed for a Pennsylvania college.

Today, Bruce Closson, owner of WrestlingReport.com, announced that the Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year for the 2005 season is Thad Benton, a junior from Claysburg, who competed this season at 141 pounds for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Mr. Benton won the 2005 NCAA Division II title, going 4-0 at the NCAA Tournament, including a 9-4 win over his Nebraska-Omaha opponent in the finals.  In winning the national crown, Benton led Pitt-Johnstown to an excellent fourth-place finish at the Division II NCAA Tournament.  Thad Benton completed the 2005 season with a record of 30-5, including 16 pins.

Congratulations to Thad Benton, WrestlingReport.com's Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year for 2005.  Past winners of this WrestlingReport.com recognition were:  Edinboro University's Josh Koscheck for the 2001 wrestling season; Lehigh University team mates Rob Rohn and Jon Trenge (tie vote) for 2002; and Lehigh University's Troy Letters, both for 2003 and for 2004.
