Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler for the 2002 Season
Each season WrestlingReport.com selects the Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year. The award goes to the best Pennsylvania native wrestler who competes for a Pennsylvania college. This year we had a tie in the voting. The co-winners are Lehigh University’s Rob Rohn and Jon Trenge.
Rob Rohn is a senior at Lehigh. Competing at 184 pounds, Mr. Rohn won the NCAA title at Albany, with a stunning pin (his fourth of the Tournament) in the championship final bout. From Nazareth, Rob also was an EIWA finalist this season and finished the year with a record of 30-5. Sophomore Jon Trenge, from Orefield, hammered his way to the NCAA finals at 197 pounds, with three pins and a major decision, finishing second to four-time champ and OW Cale Sanderson. Mr. Trenge won the 2002 EIWA title and concluded the year with a mark of 34-4.
This WrestlingReport award, recognizing the top collegiate grapplers in the Keystone State, was initiated last season. The 2001 winner was Josh Koscheck of Edinboro University, who won the NCAA title at 174 pounds that year.
Congratulations to our WrestlingReport co-winners Rob Rohn and Jon Trenge!
