Grays Harbor to Compete in NCWA

^^July 2015-

Wrestling is Back!

The Chokers will compete in the National Collegiate Wresting Association (NCWA). They will be members of the Northwest Conference, which also includes Columbia Basin and other teams from various 4 years schools in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and British Columbia. Unlike most junior college programs the NCWA allows 4 years of eligibility to compete.

Leading the Grays Harbor Choker Wrestling Program is Elma graduate Phillip Pine. Interim Athletic Director Tom Sutera said, "Phillip came to us a few weeks ago with his idea, within a month we had committed to make this happen." Sutera added, "With Phillip's excellent reputation and respect within the wrestling community, it was a lot easier to commit to the program. Phillip is driven to be successful."

The Athletic Department feels this program can and will be an immediate success for the college and the community. Phillip has many wrestlers already lined up to attend Grays Harbor College this fall. We look forward to seeing this high energy coach and his team in action wearing the blue and grey colors of Choker Athletics. There is a lot of excitement about this addition to the department.

Funding for this program will come from various places. Our budgets for Athletics had already been decided for the 2015-2016 school year. "We do have some funds available to help with startup costs," Sutera stated, "but much of the program will rely on outside funding to carry it through the season."

Details for practices and where dual meets will be held, are still being considered. Stay tuned for more details about the program as they become available.

Welcome aboard Coach Pine, and Good Luck Choker Wrestlers!
