11/28/15 Missouri Beats Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI dropped its first dual to No. 9 Missouri, 24-19, in front of a sold-out crowd at home tonight.

"When you have a packed house, you need to put on a show and get those people eager to come back the next time," said head coach Doug Schwab. "We need to give ourselves some more opportunities."

UNI falls to 1-3 in duals and 0-1 in the MAC. Missouri stays undefeated with their first MAC win, 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC.

Dylan Peters got the Panthers rolling with a 7-5 decision at 125 pounds to stay undefeated on the season. He beat No. 13 Barlow McGhee, 7-5. Peters, a junior, has started every season with at least 9 wins before his first loss.

Riding time gave Mizzou's Zach Synon the point he needed to get the 2-1 decision over UNI's Josh Alber, who just broke into the top-20 rankings.

Mizzou would go on to take the next two before UNI's Bryce Steiert would tie things up for the Panthers. His 3:32 fall over Luke Fortuna made the team score 9-9. It was the first collegiate fall for the true freshman.

"I loved the pace Steiert wrestled," said Schwab. "That was three minutes of extreme, break-neck pace, and that's how you have to crack a guy open."

No. 3 Cooper Moore made his season debut with a tech fall over Nick DeLoach to push the Panthers up 14-9.

"Some of our guys came out smelling blood, and they went out and got bonus points," said Schwab.

Mizzou got falls at 174 pounds and 184 pounds.

Jared Bartel was the first to strike at 197 pounds. He had a takedown early in the first period to lead former NCAA champion No. 2 J'Den Cox, but Cox would get the 7-2 decision.

UNI fell too far behind for No. 6 Blaize Cabell to take the lead back, but his tech fall narrowed the gap. He notched 12 takedowns to win 25-10.

"We have to lick our wounds really quick, because you don't have much time to sit down and hang your head about this," said Schwab. "We do have to get ready for Las Vegas. It's a huge event. It's our last big event before Christmas. We are not going to dwell on this, but this will burn."

NEXT UP
The Panthers will head out to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite Dec. 4-5. They return home for the UNI Open in the UNI-Dome Dec. 12.

"Next week is a huge opportunity for these guys," said Schwab. "That's a big, big event for our guys. It's a way to make yourself nationally known and put yourself as one of the best guys in the country."
