Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team fell to No. 15 Rutgers 24-12 and to unranked Utah Valley 20-19 at Gill Coliseum on Saturday in its home opener. The Beavers lost 24-12 to Rutgers and 20-19 to Utah Valley.

The highlight for the Beavers (2-3) against Rutgers (7-1) was a dominating win by redshirt sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi, ranked No. 5 by InterMat, over Billy Smith, ranked No. 7. Dhesi led 17-6 when the match was stopped with about seven seconds remaining after a fourth stall warning on Smith.

OSU’s other winners against the Scarlet Knights were by sophomore Ronnie Bresser at 125 and by redshirt junior Joey Delgado at 149. Bresser doubled Sean McCabe 6-3; Delgado topped Tyson Dippery 5-2.

Dhesi also dominated against the Wolverines (2-3), defeating Dustin Dennison 21-8. Redshirt junior Joey Palmer defeated InterMat No. 18 Jade Rauser 6-2; Delgado earned a 12-4 major decision over Brayden Humphreys to go 2-0 on the day.

Senior Seth Thomas took a 16-4 major decision over Kieffer Taylor at 165 pounds and redshirt freshman Corey Griego also won by major decision at 184 pounds, 11-3 over Will Sumner.

The Beavers are idle for the Thanksgiving weekend. They’ll return to action on Dec. 4-5 at the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. They placed 10th in the team standings at last year’s tournament; Bresser and Rodriguez, a 149-pounder in 2014-15, each took seventh.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Fresh off of a 20-19 upset victory over No. 18 Oregon State earlier on the day, the Utah Valley University wrestling team capped the Oregon State Duals with a 30-9 setback to No. 15 Rutgers on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis.

Seniors Chasen Tolbert (125 pounds), Ross Taylor (174) and Derek Thomas (197) led the way for the Wolverines (2-3, 0-0 Big 12) by each recoding victories against Rutgers (7-1, 0-0 B1G). The trio of Wolverine seniors all finished the Oregon State Duals with identical 2-0 records, as they all also picked up big wins over Oregon State earlier in the day to help UVU defeat the 18th-ranked Beavers.

The 12th-ranked Tolbert opened Saturday's nightcap against the Scarlet Knights with a 6-3 decision over Sean McCabe to give UVU an early 3-0 lead over RU. The lead was short-lived however, as the Big-Ten Scarlet Knights reeled off the next five matches -- all by bonus points -- to take a 23-3 advantage.

The 174-pound Taylor then put a stop to Rutgers' run with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Anthony Pafumi to make it a 23-6 score. Following another victory by RU at 184, Thomas then capped UVU's winning ways in the contest with a 5-1 decision over Hayden Hrymack.

With the setback to the Scarlet Knights, the Big-12 Wolverines are now 1-2 against Big Ten Conference foes on the season after recording the program's first-ever win over a Big Ten opponent win a 30-6 victory over Michigan State on Nov. 7.

The Wolverines will now return to Orem for its home opener against Boise State on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. The contest will not only mark the home opener for Utah Valley, but also its first home dual as a member of the Big 12 Conference.
