Wrestling Wins CCCAA Dual Team State Championship!

(Walnut, CA) For the third straight year, the Mt. SAC Wrestling Team qualified for the Dual Team State Championship Match. In 2013, The Mounties brought home the inaugural title. In 2014, the Mounties lost to a strong Fresno City team, 23-15. This year, Mt. SAC was facing a similar Fresno team, with balanced athletes in every weight class but the Mounties were up for the challenge. The Rams came into the match as the #1 ranked team at 12-1, Mt. SAC was ranked #2 at 13-0.

The match proved to be as competitive as expected with the Mounties winning the CCCAA State Title 20-19 and securing its second dual team title in Coach David Rivera's 5th season at the helm.

With Fresno leading 19-17, after nine matches, it came down to the last match in the Heavyweight category. Mt. SAC's Andrew Cruz took Casey Jones to 4 overtimes, before taking the Ram down for a 2 point near fall and sealing the championship for Mt. SAC in front of an enthusiastic crowd on Sunday afternoon.

*Mt. SAC assessed a 1 pt. deduction

Mt. SAC is set to host the CCCAA Regional Individual Tournament Championships on December 5th. Wrestling is a unique sport having both a team and individual championship format.
