On Saturday, the Cerritos College wrestling team traveled north to Simpson University in Redding to take on colleges from Oregon and Washington. The Falcons split their four matches, as they earned wins over Highline (WA) CC (29-22) and Southwest Oregon CC (26-23), while they suffered losses to Southern Oregon University (27-14) and Clakamas (OR) CC (29-7). This Saturday, the team will compete in the East Los Angeles Brawl, their final event before the Southern California Regional Tournament.

Cerritos vs. Southern Oregon University: Taking on the NAIA national runner-up, the Falcons earned a pair of technical falls to account for their team scoring. Sophomore 285-pound Jesse Gomez (Buena Park HS) went into the third period, but it was a four-point near-fall that secured the victory. Freshman Aaron Negrete (Calvary Chapel HS) also added a 13-4 win at 157 pounds. Cerritos dropped three one-point decisions, with freshman Richard Pocock (California HS) suffering a 3-2 setback at 141 pounds. He escaped for a point, but ran out of time.

They could have earned the win at 197 pounds, but Martinez was penalized a point in the third period for stalling and suffered a 2-1 setback. Pins by both Negrete and 157 pounds and by freshman Joel Villa (Citrus Hill HS) at 174 pounds gave the team a 23-14 lead. Sophomore Estevan Cabanas (Canyon Springs HS) earned a technical fall 16-1 win at 133 pounds, as did freshman Benjamin Gonzalez (Loara HS) with his 18-2 victory at 149 pounds.
