UNI @ Cornell

Predictions:
125: Schwarm MD over Russo or alternatively Baughman dec 5-3 over Schwarm
133: Not sure who will go on either team, per the UNI lineup, they have 3 RS freshman at this weight... I take Chaz by dec.
141: Yianni over Alber 10-4. This match is why we are all excited to watch this dual.
149: Thomsen TF Furnas. Thomsen is the real deal.
157: Galasso vs Paden Moore (my best guess). I think Galasso can sneak away with one here. Galasso by dec.
165: Bryce Steiert vs JJ Chavez (again my best guess). Steiert is a 2x NCAA qualifier. Finished 3rd at the scuffle last year. I think he takes it by MD, but I hope I am wrong.
174: Womack vs 10th ranked Taylor Lujan. On paper this is an excellent match, but I think Womack dominates this one. Womack by dec 7-2.
184: Max Dean vs 4th ranked Drew Foster. Foster is really good and has more experience and probably wins by MD.
197: Darmstadt/Honis vs Jacob Holschlag (NCAA qualifier last year). I have never seen this guy wrestle before, but this is a close match on paper. My guess is that Honis takes it by a narrow decision 5-4.
Hwt: Mczig vs Isley. Mczig by dec 2-1.

Wrestlestat has UNI favored in this one, 31-6. I think it'll be a lot closer, but can Cornell pull out a win here? I think so, but it'll be a wild one!

They must have updated some wrestlers, because now it says UNI 25-10. It also says Alber will major Yianni D. Alber is very good, but I'll bet my house that Yianni isn't majored.

{to be clear, I like Wrestlestat, and know it is dependent on actual results for new wrestlers, so rankings will sort themselves out. But it is funny seeing Yianni ranked at #100+}

I love the dual comparison feature on Wrestle Sats ,especially the ability to change lineups, and I did see the initial data a few weeks ago.

I was waiting to see if they were going to update the page since they originally had Alber with a tech over Yianni which I assumed was some kind of a default mode due to lack of dada. This is going to be a great match between two young studs for sure. A major by Alber ( or anyone else against Yianni ) would really surprise me.

I think Upper Iowa has to be the favorite but I would not count Cornell out just yet. I see a 5-5, 6-4 split so bonus points may prove to be the difference. I'll take a closer look later this week when we see who is actually wrestling. I think 133, 165, 197, and 285 may not be set in stone just yet for Cornell.

I realize that the Binghamton Tourney was not deep with top level talent but I really liked what I saw from Cornell on Sunday. This season could quickly go from interesting to very interesting in a flash.

We shall see.

Not to rain on the parade here, but - for a little context - here's the results from UNI's 25-10 beatdown on Mizzou last year:

125 #59 Jacob Schwarm vs. #16 Barlow McGhee W DEC 5 - 1
133 #17 Josh Alber vs. #18 John Erneste W DEC 5 - 3
141 #84 Jake Hodges vs. #12 Jaydin Eierman L DEC 8 - 4
149 #10 Max Thomsen vs. #3 Lavion Mayes W DEC 9 - 2
157 #89 Paden Moore vs. #6 Joey Lavallee L DEC 8 - 3
165 #9 Bryce Steiert #7 Daniel Lewis W FALL 2:23
174 #20 Taylor Lujan vs. #36 Dylan Wisman W MD 14 - 3
184 #19 Drew Foster vs. #83 Matt Lemanowicz W DEC 6 - 3
197 #28 Jacob Holschlag vs. #1 J'den Cox L TF5 18 - 1 6:03
285 #80 Jared Bartel vs. #68 Austin Myers W DEC 4 - 3

Figure Schwarm, Alber, Thomsen, Moore, Lujan, Foster and Holschage are back this season; I did see on Wrestlestats that Steiert is taking a redshirt, though.

Tough team!

Rob sent an email early AM today that says:

125- It is going to be Russo for UNI.

133-Tucker/Baughman not yet decided no mention of a wrestle off

165- Chavez for UNI

197-Honis / Darmstadt, not yet decided no mention of a wrestle off or of Honis moving to 285. Personally I think this may depend on how big the UNI guy is ,I do not remember. He did pin Sweany at Vegas last year early in the first period. I doubt if they would throw Honis out there against a really big guy but maybe against A 230-240 guy if we are still in the match at that time?

So a little clarity.

285- Sweany out until after Vegas.

As usual subject to change :D

According to Intermat, UNI is #14 and Cornell is # 18 in dual meet rankings. So Cornell needs only a minor upset. Wrestling at home, it might not take an upset at all.

I am hoping Tucker goes 133. Both he had Noah are small for 133 to say the least.

UNI's take on tomorrow: http://unipanthers.com/news/2017/11/16/ ... -ndsu.aspx

Mostly same as above, except they have Honis at 285. Some insight into UNI's lineup. Could be a few really good matches.

UNI's lineup is still unsure but I think we have a good idea of Cornell's so let's take a shot.

125 UNI #16 Jay Schwarm (7-0) vs CU Mike Russo (4-0)
Schwarm has to be favored but Russo is a real wild card. Chance for a early upset in this one but have to give reg dec to UNI.
3-0 UNI

133 UNI Jack Wagner (3-2) vs CU Chaz Tucker
Word is that not only Yates is out but that Iowa transfer Wagner is also banged up so we shall see. Given all that I give Chas reg decision in this one,
3-3 Tie

141- UNI #12 Josh Alber (4-0) vs CU #13 Yianni Diakohimalis in one of the feature and swing matches. I'll go with a Yianni major in this one in his first match under the lights at Cornell. As good as Alber is, YianniHe really something!
7-3 CU

149 UNi #3 Max Thomsen vs CU Jonathan Furnas.
At first glance looks like bonus points for Thomsen but he only beat Furnas 4-0 in Vegas a year ago and Furnas is a different guy now. I give UNI the benefit of the doubt with major but could be closer.
7-7 tie

157 UNI Paden Moore (5-0) vs CU Joey Galasso (3-2)
Word is that Moore may be banged up? I am going with 3 for Joey.

10-7 CU

165-UNi Dan Kelly (3-1-) or Isaiah Patton (6-3) vs CU Jon Jay Chavez (5-0)
4 for CU, Chavez looked great in Binghanton
14-7 CU

174 UNi - #8 Taylor Lujan CU #6 Brandon Womach
Another feature match, I'll go with Bama vs Georgia.
17-7 CU

184 UNI # Drew Foster (3-0) vs CU Max Dean (5-0)
On paper major for returning AA, later this season may be very different.
17-11 CU

197 UNI #15 Jacob Holschlag (0-0) or Izaak Shadehelm (4-3) vs CU Ben Darmstadt (3-1)
Darmstadt with a major
21-11 CU

285- UNI #24 Carter Isley (8-0) vs CU #18 Ben Honis at 197 (4-1)
3 for Isley but very interesting to see Honis at 285, certainly a match he can win.
21- 14 CU

A one match swing in a dual that has so many tossups.
