Cornell Lineup 2017-18

Postby Mountain Hawk » Mon Mar 20, 2017 2:30 pm

Just wondering if anyone wants to take a shot at it. MH not that up on what greyshirts are coming into the lineup or what recruits from this year (or which another lineup could probably be made) might show up in the lineup next year.

I think "unsettled, but with a lot of talent" sums it up; a lot of entrenched graduates means that a lot of other guys can now aim for different weights. Let's wait and see where the carob beans settle. The best guys coming in from FLWC are probably Foster Karmon, Max Dean, and Ben Darmstadt. Dean may have the best shot at starting because, well.

I heard at EIWAs that both Vitali Arujau and Yianni D. will be at FLWC, but I didn't hear it direct from Rob or their parents so let's just call it a rumor for the time being. My guess is that one or both 285 recruits will head right to Cornell.

What about Honis-- put him on the Kasper diet and he'd beat Sweany at heavyweight.

Best lineup with one of the big newbies sitting one year.

125 - Macri / Baughman - Macri can make 125, can he keep it there for a long season?
133 - Tucker / Macri / Overheiser - I am taking Tucker to win that one if he is healthy. Arujua sits one year otherwise would have been a 133.
141 - Yanni unless he grows / Koll / Gillem - Yanni will be gunning for a title which is more important than him filling a need at 149
149 - Furnas/ Realbuto / true Frosh Hunter Richard- stretch
157 - Stoker/ Simaz/ Gallasso but Joey should be at 149
165 - Artiglierre / Dawkins
174 - Womack
184 - Dean / Garcia
197 - Darmstadt/Honis/Anderson and maybe not in that order /Where is former PA Champ Taylor?
285 - Sweaney / True Frosh Furman or a 197 bump up?

Greys: Andrew B, Janney, Lajoie, Brindley, Arujua,

The "Big Red" has run the table with Mr. Dake and Mr. Dean...Now the rode will get tough with PSU's 149-184...Discussing your lineup now is optimism but your sole recruiting point has been NCAA Champions...Who will be the next might be a better conversation!!!

Going on memory -- didn't one of Koll's early epistles this season mention him on some sort of yearlong leave for a medical internship or something like that? I have no idea how those things work or if he'll be back.

Craig Scott wrestled at 165 during his FLWC year. What did they do to him? Try that.

HJ - you really have a hard time with name spelling. "Yianni" and "Stroker" .... I admit, I suck at it too. So I decided to help.

I think I've heard Yianni and Vito will be grey shirting. I saw Yianni at NCAAs -- I'm guessing the elbow operations have kept him out of the gym. He's definitely not at fighting weight. Not fat .... just clearly not cutting.

Fun to guess about the line up but it's a long way off.

125 - I wonder if Macri can make 125. Seemed like a tough cut last year. And who says he isn't growing still? I have no idea. But wouldn't surprise me to see Baughman man the weight next year.

133 - Macri / Tucker

141 - Tucker / Koll

149 - Galasso

157 - Stroker / Simaz

165 - You think Womack is moving up? Interesting. I'd guard against it. He took a greyshirt and an injury year. He's old enough to be a junior now. Not sure he is growing much buy maybe. I'd like to see him stay at 165. We shall see.

174 - Don't know

184 - Dean / Garcia

197 - I really appreciate Honis. Guy works hard. But, my hope and desire for the team, is that Darmstadt is a wrecking ball. And thus, it's Darmstadt.

Hvy - Sweaney pushed by newcomers.

A tidbit --- At the Saturday evening event, Koll made a promise. At least 4 AAs next year. He didn't name them. Who will they be?

1. Womack - fair to say that it is reasonable, though not guaranteed he can do it.

2. Darmstadt - likely the stallion in the stable one can most count on ... I think. Can he get some man strength and improve on the fundamentals so he doesn't have to rely on big moves agains the really good guys ... where it may not work.

3 & 4. ??? Dean? Tucker? Macri? Baughman? Stroker? Seem like guys that could perhaps do it. Others?

I figure Womack stays at 165 if it's a comfortable cut and Artigliere is at 174.

I don't have a crystal ball for sure. If someone of authority said YD is greyshirting than that's better than what I got. However, other than his surgery, I can't possibly see how YD benefits from a greyshirt. If it is due to his surgery, then sure. The surgery must be more significant than not. We've seen a few wrestlers come in who've wrestled only to burn out along the way. He's had enough mat time. Check out 5th place (sp) 149 AA Eirmann who YD beat last year in competition at a lower weight.

Interesting that folks see Joey G back at 149. Without YD in finding 4 AAs might be tougher than not but Koll knows best for sure.

Part of the problem with nailing down an AA next year is the volume of young kids coming back who AAd this year. Not a huge exit of Seniors at some of these weights.

this is a really formidable lineup. MH would be shocked if Macri went to 125 again and Galasso seemed to have trouble with 149? Otherwise, the youth movement looks very strong (and so does the youth movement behind this group). 4 A/As would never shock MH out of this lineup.

Darmstadt pinned AA Ryan Wolfe this year which is a good sign for him.
