OCU crushes Lyon 44-10
Stars edge Northeastern A&M in exhibition dual 18-16

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University routed Lyon (Ark.) 44-10 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars racked up four falls, and Matt Landgraff won in a tiebreaker. OCU, ranked second in NAIA wrestling, improved to 3-0 in duals.
Also in an exhibition dual, the Stars hung on for an 18-16 win over Northeastern A&M, ranked 14th in the NJCAA. Jamie Shawver, Cody Sivertsen and Zach Skates won by major decision to key OCU. Sivertsen's 13-5 win over Joe Gaither put the Stars ahead 18-0 through five matches.
After Andrew Hyde of Lyon pinned Parker Bohannan, Travon Smith evened the dual score for the Stars 6-6 by pinned Carson Grant in 1:06 in the 149-pound match.
Skates increased the Stars' lead to 12-6 with a fall in the 157-pound bout. Skates, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., pinned Arman Mansouri in 1:43. Skates sits atop the NAIA's 157-pound rankings.
At 184, Derek Sivertsen of OCU finished off Troy Mercer in 1:08. Derek Sivertsen, a junior from Moore, Okla., holds the top spot at his weight's NAIA rankings.
Bryson McGowan notched the Stars' other fall of the dual. McGowan, a freshman from Hulbert, Okla., earned the pin in 1:04 over Jason Kidder. McGowan is ranked 15th among NAIA heavyweights.
OCU's Ricky McCarty rolled to a 19-1 technical-fall win over Connor Webber at 165. McCarty, a junior from Lawton, Okla., posted three four-point near falls and three takedowns. McCarty, the top-ranked defending national champion, completed the technical fall with a second-period near fall.
In the 133-pound match, Landgraff escaped in the first 30-second period of the tiebreaker, then rode Robb Rodriguez in the second 30-second period to notch the 2-1 victory. Landgraff, a freshman from Weeki Wachee, Fla., scored first in the second regulation period with an escape, then Rodriguez matched him with an escape early in the third period.
Oklahoma City's next competition will be the King Open at 9 a.m. Nov. 22 in Bristol, Tenn.
