Hartsville, S.C. - The St. Andrews University wrestling team traveled down the road to challenge Div. II rival Coker College on Wednesday evening where they wrestled in the Watson Art Theatre for the first ever time on the campus of Coker College.

Coker (1-0) however, pulled away late for a 33-9 win after St. Andrews had won three matches in a row midway through the dual to pull within 20-9.

St. Andrews was led by wins from junior Isaac King (JR/Los Angeles, CA), sophomore Kavoris Perry (SO/Henderson, NC), and senior Denzel Leggett (SR/Newport News, VA). Perry's 5-1 win by decision was the first of his career as well.

After sophomore Brennan Patton (pictured) wrestled a tough match at 125 lbs. to start the dual off, Coker went on to roll through the next two bouts by fall and major decision to get out to a 14-0 advantage. The Knights then bumped up their top grappler, returning national qualifier Isaac King (5-3), from 149 lbs. to 157 in a strategic move to help get the Knights on the winning track and swing the momentum back in SAU's favor and that it did as King cruised to a hard-fought 9-5 win.

Perry (1-3) then controlled his bout from start to finish in methodically beating Coker 5-1 before Leggett (2-0) hung on late to rally to win his bout 11-9 and trim Coker's 20 point lead down to just 11.

Unfortunately for the Knights, Coker won the next bout by pin to clinch the match. Senior tri-captain Jared Key then lose his close bout 6-4 at 197 lbs. before heavyweight Tyler Evers finished the bout off with a major decision loss to a ranked Coker grappler.

St. Andrews (0-2) is next competing on Saturday when they travel to Campbellsville, KY to compete in the Mid-South conference Campbellsville Duals where the Knights will face three conference opponents. Action starts at 10 am.
