Wrestling Earns Pair of Victories at Hatcher Duals
Wrestling - Mon, Nov. 9, 2015
Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College wrestling team traveled to Arkadelphia, Ark., on Saturday to compete in the Hatcher Duals. Williams finished 2-1 in the event by defeating Central Baptist College 41-4 and University of the Ozarks 45-9. Adrian College ruined a perfect run by defeating the Eagles 22-18.

The Eagles had little trouble dispatching Central Baptist College in the first dual match of the day. Dante Padilla (SO/Weeki Wachee, Fla. ) and Jonathan Stewart (SO/Blaine, Wash.) earned pin victories in the first match against CBC.

WBC then faced Adrian College out of Michigan and narrowly missed a late comeback attempt. Patrick Grigsby (SO/Bentonville, Ark. ) won via 8-3 decision, Stewart won by technical fall 16-0, Tyler Dibert (JR/Imler, Penn. ) won by a 6-4 decision, Josh Chiles (SO/Little Rock, Ark.) won by a 10-2 major decision and Roger Moe (SO/Coppell, Texas) won via major decision 7-0.

The match against University of the Ozarks was the final match of the day for the Eagles. Padilla earned his second pin of the day in the 141 bout. Grigsby followed Padilla with a pin in the 149 battle. Stewart got a technical fall in the 157 class. Willie Wright (SO/Maumelle, Ark.) pinned Marcus Jones in the 165 battle. Conner Linehan (JR/St. Louis, Mo.) won by a 13-1 major decision against Wade Johnson.

The final three matches against U-of-O were won by pinfall as Tyler Dibert, Josh Chiles and Roger Moe secured the Eagles victory.

"We prepared well for the Hatcher Duals and had goals of winning the tournament," said Head Coach Kerry Regner. "Unfortunately, we did not compete as ourselves on Saturday. We let an opportunity slip away. The only plus side was that it was in the beginning of the year."

Williams is now 2-1 on the season. The next event for the wrestling squad will be the Maryville Open on Saturday, November 14. The event is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start in Town & Country, Mo.
