Briar Cliff wrestling coach Joe Privitere has announced the signing of Alex Markle, from Helena, Montana.
"Alex is a strong wrestler and a terrific young man," said Privitere. "We expect him to make an immediate impact in our line up and look forward to helping him reach his lofty goals over the next four years."
The 5-9 Markle was a four-time wrestling letterwinner and two-year team captain for the Bruins of Capital High School. Through his first three years, he has produced a combined record of 88-35. As a freshman, the 98-pounder went 31-12 with 21 wins by fall. He finished third at the divisional wrestling meet and second at the state powerlifting championship. As a sophomore, the 105-pound Markle went 31-8 (15 pins) and finished second at divisionals and fourth at state. He also captured the 123-pound state powerlifting title. As a 119-pound junior, Markle finished with a record of 26-15 (16 pins) and ended up third at divisionals and fourth at state. He also produced a third place finish at the state powerlifting meet.
Off the mat, the honor roll and National Honor Society member served as vice president of Business Professionals of America and was a three-time academic all-state selection. Markle is the son of Tim and Brenda Markle.
