Del Val Wrestling Team in Tragic Incident in Vegas

Postby mh1 » Mon Dec 21, 2015 5:48 pm

Update from the university website on the events in Las Vegas. Local news reports are confirming 1 person was killed (not affiliated with DVU) and the driver is being held on murder charges. Sounds like it was intentional.

DelVal's next event is the North / South Duals on January 9. After this incident in Vegas they will need that time to recover, both physically and emotionally. Five wrestlers were hit by the car, and Coach Cantrell was hit as well. Two of the wrestlers were sent to the hospital via ambulance and released later that night.

The coaching staff was remarkable throughout this traumatic event. They were in constant contact with the parents throughout the night and stayed by the side of the injured wrestlers. The entire team banded together as a wrestling team should. The incident was horrible, fortunately, the injuries sustained were not major considering those that remain in critical condition and the poor soul that lost her life.

Pacific University also suffered injuries and withdrew from the tournament. My understanding is that four were injured, three of which were released from the hospital that night, with one remaining overnight for observation

Wishing the best for all who went through this horrific ordeal. Indeed, take some time off to recover, connect as human beings and then regroup for the remainder of the season with a unified focus on enjoyment and improvement.
