Stevens Tech freshman ranked #1 @ 133...

Postby D3 for LU » Sun Feb 05, 2017 3:14 pm

This is of some personal interest to yours truly, since I know of this individual, as he was a HS teammate of my nephew while wrestling @ Roxbury HS in Succasunna, NJ.
2X NJSIAA placewinner, now a freshman on the Stevens Institute of Technology of NJ, wrestling @ 133 and maintaining a #1 ranking for Div 3 NCAA wrestlers.
Undefeated sofar... bonus point generator for his team as well.
Nicest guy you want to meet, all business on the mat.
Not too shabby right out of the gate, eh?

D3,

Austin Sisco (#4) on the list is a fairly local Jersey kid as well...from Pope John in Sparta. Both these guys were at slightly lower weights than my son so their paths never crossed on the mat. Mo-Town never stood up very well to the Roxbury juggernaut in recent years.

I called up my brother,to let him know that the Cent.Conf. championship was going to be streamed, in about 10 mins. Sat. afternoon.
We haven't seen Troy wrestle since last season as a senior @ Roxbury... my brother was unsuccessful in getting to view the stream, while I was lucky to catch the last 2 periods of Troy's match.
He overwhelmed the 7th ranked Wash. & Lee soph. via tech fall.
Unless York's #2 wrestler, who lost twice to Stanich this season sofar, solves the puzzle... Troy Stanich will become an AA & NCAA champion, w/ 3 more years to place his stamp in the Div 3 history lore.

Tanxs for the info, mh1!
Looking forward to Troy's start of the NCAA post season.
He steamed rolled over NYU's Pike and W&L's Bylykbashi, obviously the two best @ 133 besides himself.
He's looking strong.

A healthy Pike may turn the tables this time. Hoping that DVU is healthy and strong at 125 and 133 (Velez and Rush) to make this a dogfight.

VERY funny, BP... you're a hoot! :P

Although Troy won his semi's and finals by decision... he's going to the nationals, still ranked #1 and charging forward. 8)
Let's see how he'll perform under the national lights!
(Meanwhile... his old teammates @ Roxbury came up w/two qualifiers to the NJSIAA states over at Reg. 2, now that the TOP 4 go to Atlantic City... DePaul & Bergen Catholic showing their strength.)

HAMMER TIME!!!

Postby D3 for LU » Fri Mar 10, 2017 8:43 pm

Troy is looking STRONG up @ LaCrosse!
Rnd of 16, he won by fall in the 1st period over Evan Corso of Oswego State 2:51.
QF that was just concluded, after giving up a quick TD, Troy took apart Scott Arneson of Wisconsin-Platteville via TF in 6:35 by a 20-3 score.
As a true freshman, Troy Stanich has become an AA, as he follows into the semifinals that will start tomorrow @ 10am EST.
Troy will be having a tough bout ahead of himself, as he will be wrestling Johnson & Wales 5th seed Jay Albis who defeated 4th seed Ryan Flynn of York (who Troy beat twice this season.)
Troy dec. Jay Albis in a tournament earlier in the season, 10-3 at the Ithaca Invitational, Then 16-0 TF @ the Roger Williams Invitational.
Best of skill to you, Troy!
Keep on rollin'! 8)

How hard is it to beat an opponent 3 times in a season?

Postby D3 for LU » Sat Mar 11, 2017 12:33 pm

... THAT hard!
(Troy found that out the hard way. :( )
Jay Albis did his homework, and turned the 3rd match into a charm, as he turned a first TD into the decisive difference in a 7-6 win over #1 seed Troy Stanish of Stevens Tech.
Meanwhile, the toughest match will be for Troy to take that crushing disappointment, turn it around and be ready for the consi-SF to wrestle for a possible 3rd.
Still, being an AA as a true freshman is nothing to sneeze at... let's see how Troy turns it around.

Troy won his consi-semifinal bout over7th seed, soph. Cam Timok of Central by major D, 10-1 (over 4mins of RT for Troy. )
Timok is a short spark plug of a wrestler, that Troy had difficulty in trying to turn him... instead, he rode him till forever.
Now, he has a chance for 3rd, as he'll be going up against the 3rd seed from Millikin, Chris Williams, who dec. (4) Ryan Flynn of York, 3-1.
