Hale Earns Second-Place Finish at King Open

November 22, 2015
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Anderson University wrestling standout Zak Hale, who is planning on redshirting this season, placed second while wrestling unattached at the annual King Open at 149 pounds Sunday at the King Student Center Complex.

Hale closed the Open with a 3-1 record and fell in the 149-pound title bout to Jeremiah Lutz of Emmanuel by a 6-3 decision. Prior to the setback, Hale posted a trio of victories, headlined by a second-period pin over Liberty’s Jonah Swinson in the second round. The senior also tallied a major decision in the opening round and a 10-5 decision in the semifinals.

Competing in only open tournaments this season, Hale is now 8-2 for the year following his third-place finish at The Citadel Open to begin the 2015-16 campaign. The Shaftsbury, Vt. native is a three-time national qualifier and is competing two weight classes than his normal 133-pound slot.

The rest of the Trojans will return to action on Dec. 3 when they head to Spartanburg Methodist. The first bout is scheduled for 7 p.m.
