Warner Takes 125lb Title to Highlight WJU Effort at Findlay Open

FINDLAY, Ohio – As has been the case in the early season, Wheeling Jesuit's Dustin Warner continues to lead the team. Warner claimed the 125-pound title at the University of Findlay Open to highlight the Cardinals effort on Saturday.

Warner recorded a 19-3 tech fall victory in the 125 championship over Notre Dame College's JT Ayers. The sophomore All-American improved his record to 12-0 on the season.

Scott Lopez (133) wrestled his way to second place as the other top WJU performer. The redshirt sophomore won his first three bouts, before falling in a close 3-0 decision against David Bavery of Notre Dame College. Joining Lopez at 133, Nolan Whitely had a solid 4-1 day for fifth place in the same weight class. Whitely won a 10-5 decision to Kevin Kinyua of Mercyhurst in the fifth-place match.

In the 184-pound field, Sawyer Leppla garnered a fourth place finish. The WJU junior split four matches, including losing a close 5-1 decision to Michigan State's Wesley Maskill in the third-place match.

At 149, Dominick Nania lost to Isacc Dulgarian from Notre Dame College in the consolation final for fourth place and finished 3-1.

Preston Bowshier (141), Keegan Driscoll (165) and Nate Temple (285) all posted sixth places to round out the Cardinals placewinners. Bowshier went 6-2 and had a tough 6-4 sudden victory decision loss to Cleveland State's Jayce Carr for the sixth-place finish.

Freshman Driscoll recorded a 4-2 day's record and fell to Nate Ross of Gannon in the fifth-place match. At heavyweight, Temple won four of six matches, but lost to Gannon's Nick Budd to finish his day.

The WJU wrestling team will have some time off before it faces Alderson Broaddus in a road dual match Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.
