11/21/15 Notre Dame Impressive at Findlay Open

INDLAY, Ohio -- It was an impressive showing for the Notre Dame College wrestling team as they competed at the Findlay Open, hosted by Findlay University on Saturday, Nov. 21. NDC had two first-place finishers to highlight a day where 10 different Falcons placed at the Open.

Competing at 133 lbs, David Bavery finished in first place for the Falcons with a 3-0 win over Scott Lopez (Wheeling Jesuit) to put a stamp on a strong weekend. Bavery went 5-0 on the day while outscoring opponents 34-6 in those five matches, taking home first place at 133 lbs.

Also earning a first place finish for NDC was Juwon Edmond, who was the top competitor in the 157 lb bracket. Edmond, a freshman from Chicago, Illinois, collected his first collegiate Open victory with his a 4-2 victory over Joey White (Findlay) in the 157 Finals.

While Edmond placed first in the 157 bracket, teammate Jonatan Rivera placed fourth for the Falcons as well in the same 157 bracket.

The Falcons' next highest placing came in the 125 lb bracket, where JT Ayers strung together an impressive day of wrestling. After receiving a first round bye, Ayers defeated Tiffin's Giuseppe Penzone via Pinfall at the 2:24 mark to advance to the 125 Quarterfinals.

Ayers then via 17-9 Major and 17-15 decision in his next two matches,but fell short in the 125 Finals to WJU's Dustin Warner. Ayers finished the day 3-1 overall, securing a second place finish at the Findlay Open.

At 149 lbs, Isaac Dulgarian took home a third place finish for the Falcons, winning via DQ over Dominick Nania (WJU) in the battle for 3rd Place match. Also placing in the 149 lb bracket was James Jenkins, who finished in 8th place for NDC.

Also earning a top-four finish for NDC at the Findlay Open was Andrew Bannister, who placed fourth in the 141 lb bracket.

In the heavyweight brackets, the Falcons picked up an eighth place finish in each the 174, 184 and 285 lb brackets.

At 174 lbs, Emilio Fowler placed eighth for the Falcons while Tony Dailey also placed eighth at 184 lbs. After losing his opening match at 285 lbs, Logan Rimmer battled back to earn an eighth place finish for NDC.

The Falcons had 10 total placers at the Findlay Open, including two first place finishes, one third place finish and two fourth place finishes.

NDC will return to action on Friday, Dec. 4 at home for their annual Blue & White Meet. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. in Murphy Gym.
