EIGHT MARAUDERS PLACE AS TEAM FINISHES SECOND AT W&J INVITATIONAL

Washington, Pa. – Millersville wrestling opened its season by placing second out of 15 teams in the Washington & Jefferson Open. The Marauders scored a total of 127.5 points. First place Wheeling Jesuit scored 209 points.

The Marauders had eight total wrestlers place: Austin Cammacci (125), Connor Sheehan (125), Alex Baider (133), Nick Haegele (149), D.J. Mele (157), Aram Moffit (197), Kyle Narber (184) and David Wuestner (285). Moffit was the top place-winner, taking second. Camacci, Haegele and Wuestner grabbed third and Narber fourth.

Camacci started by winning his first dual via pin in 4:55. After dropping in the third round, Camacci won by major decision in the consolation round to give him third place overall in the 125 pound weight division. Sheehan finished fifth in the weight class by posting a 4-2 record that included two falls, a major decision and a technical fall.

Haegele won his first two matches by major decision and pinfall. After dropping the fourth round by a point, Haegele had a bye in the consolation round before defeating a Wheeling Jesuit wrestler via forfeit for third place.

Moffit needed only two wins to get the championship bout of the 197-pound bracket. He advanced after winning by pin in 1:34 and winning by major decision in the third round. Moffit fell to the champion Terrance Fanning of Wheeling Jesuit in the final round, 3-1.

In the heavyweight division, Wuestner started his day by pinning his opponent in 6:59 in the second round and defeating his opponent 4-2 in the third. Wuestner dropped the next bout by a 9-7 score to second place finisher Greg Kumer of Waynesburg. He won his last match via forfeit to place third in the 285 weight class.

Millersville opens its dual schedule on Thursday, Nov. 19, hosting Pen State Mont Alto and Seton Hill.
