BAC's Jake Glunt Wins UNC Pembroke Open

Belmont Abbey junior Jake Glunt won the 165 pound class to lead six Crusader placers today at the UNC Pembroke Open.

Glunt won the 165 title while Michael Bedard (125) and Scott Bosak (149) each finished second. Troy Gregor (133) earned fifth, Brandon Dills (184) and John Gahagan (157) both finished sixth.

Glunt, competing unattached, blasted through the bracket, winning his first three bouts by major decision, before earning a narrow 8-7 win in the semifinal bout. In the championship bout, he earned an easy 12-6 victory over Monte Britton.

Bosak had no trouble reaching the championship bout. After earning a first round bye, he won his first bout by fall just 1:50 into the contest, then breezed into the semifinal with a 6-0 win. He followed that with a 4-0 win to earn a spot in the championship match, where he lost to Coker's Jordon Tague by an 8-6 score.

Bedard reached the championship match as he earned a first round bye, then won by technical fall then a major decision. He then moved into the championship match after his opponent was disqualified. He then lost in the championship match after he medically forfeited.

Gregor opened with a 16-0 technical fall victory, then followed with a 6-0 win to reach the semifinal. He stayed alive with a 3-1 win, but lost in the fourth place match by a 6-3 score.

Dills earned a first round bye then lost his first bout. He then drew two straight byes in the wrestleback bracket before earning a 15-3 major decision victory. After winning with an injury to his opponent, he scored a 17-4 major decision win before losing in the fifth place match.

Gahagan opened his day with a win by fall, then won by decisions of 7-3 and 6-3. He then lost 5-0 in the semifinal. He lost by medical forfeit in the fifth place match.
