ESU Warriors Ranked in Preseason Super Region I

Postby Allen Brown » Fri Oct 30, 2015 1:52 pm

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior Tyler Richardson is ranked No. 2 at 197 pounds to lead four East Stroudsburg University wrestlers listed in the preseason NWCA Division II Super Region 1 rankings, released late Thursday.

Senior Tyson Searer is ranked No. 4 at 285 pounds, junior Joey Kratochvil is No. 6 at 157 and redshirt junior Joe Welk is No. 6 at 174 in the preseason rankings. ESU is listed eighth of 15 schools.

Richardson is ranked No. 6 in the preseason NWCA Division II poll, which was released on Wednesday. Garret Lineberger (Notre Dame OH) is listed No. 1 in the region and No. 5 in DII, one spot ahead of Richardson.

Richardson is a returning NCAA Division II qualifier last winter, finishing in the top 12 in DII. He was ranked No. 1 in the region for three straight reporting periods and finished as the region runner-up. He had a 19-10 record last season.

Searer is a three-time regional placewinner and was an NCAA DII qualifier at 197 pounds as a freshman in 2013. He had a 24-9 overall record in his first year at 285 last season and placed sixth in the region.

Kratochvil had a 7-7 record last year between 149 and 157 pounds. Welk redshirted last year and saw all of his collegiate varsity action as a freshman in 2013, competing at 149 and 157. A starting wide receiver and kick returner as a senior on the ESU football team, Welk was a four-time District qualifier and was a state qualifier at Solanco High School.

The Warriors open the season with the ESU Open on Sunday, November 15 at Koehler Fieldhouse. Their first dual is Friday, November 20 at Trinity (Conn.), followed by the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield (Mass.) on Saturday, November 21. The home dual opener is Tuesday, November 24 vs. Pitt-Johnstown.

ESU has had four All-Americans and 10 national qualifiers (combining for 13 appearances) in its first six seasons in DII. Richardson and Luke DeLuise (184) were DII qualifiers last year.

^^Last season was his fourth year. Maybe graduated rather than use final season of eligibility? (I'll try to find out.)
