EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University junior Tyler Richardson is ranked No. 6 in the NWCA Division II preseason rankings at 197 pounds, it was released Wednesday.

Richardson (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) was an NCAA Division II national qualifier as a sophomore, finishing as the regional runner-up at 197 to earn a ticket to the NCAA's.

He had a 19-10 overall record, including a 12-5 record on the mat against DII competition.

Richardson placed in the top 12 in DII at the NCAA Championships. He dropped his opening bout, 6-3, to No. 5-ranked Jayd Docken (Augustana), rebounded with an 8-7 decision over Brandon O'Neill (Ashland) and dropped a 10-6 decision to Jacob Cramer (Tiffin).

He was ranked No. 1 in Super Region 1 in three straight sets of rankings (Jan. 26, Feb. 9, Feb. 23). He won his first three matches at the SR1 championships to reach the final before a 3-2 setback to Chris DiLorio (LIU Post).

Richardson was the Warriors' starter at 285 pounds in nine of 14 matches as a freshman in 2013-14, before settling in as the 197-pound starter last season. He finished third in the Springfield Invitational early in the season and put together an impressive run in January and February, starting with an 8-6 decision over nationally-ranked Jalal Paige (Shippensburg) on January 13.

Richardson is one of two national qualifiers on ESU's 2015-16 roster. Senior Tyson Searer (285 pounds) went to the NCAA's at 197 pounds as a freshman in 2013 and enters his senior year as a three-time regional placewinner.
