SHU Wrestling Announces Recruiting Class

The Seton Hill University Wrestling program has announced its recruiting class for the 2015-2016 school year.

"This class brings in a ton of local and state talent. These kids were successful throughout their high school careers and I am excited to have them pursue even greater success with our team," stated head coach Brian Tucker.

Brett Beltz – South Fayette High School - Projected Weight: 165
Leading the way with the spring signees is Brett Beltz. Brett comes to Seton Hill from South Fayette High School where he posted a career record of 116 – 40. Brett was a two time WPIAL Runner up, a two time Freestyle State Runner up, and concluded his high school career with a fifth place finish at the 2015 PIAA AA State Tournament. Brett plans to compete at 165 pounds and pursue a degree in Mathematics.

Jake Willochell – Greater Latrobe High School – Projected Weight: 157
Jake Willochell comes to the Griffins from local powerhouse Greater Latrobe. He finished the season with a 35-9 record. He placed second at the prestigious King of the Mountain tournament and third at the Westmoreland County Tournament. He is a three-time WPIAL qualifier. As a team, Greater Latrobe was state runner ups during Jake's junior year. He plans to compete at 157 pounds and major in Pre Professional Health.

Zach Mattucci – Greensburg Salem High School – Projected Weight: 165
Zach Mattucci is from Greensburg Salem High School. He went 33 – 4 in his senior campaign. He was a three time WPIAL qualifier, a four time Westmoreland County place winner, and a two time North Coast Classic Champion. He finished sixth at the 2015 Flonationals. His career record was 109 – 53. Zach plans to major in Criminal Justice and compete at 165 pounds.

Trey Cole – University of Dayton/ Pittsburgh Central Catholic – Projected Weight: 285
After graduating from the University of Dayton, Trey Cole comes to Seton Hill looking to compete at the 285-pound weight class. While at Dayton, Trey was a four-year member of the football team. He received a degree in psychology with a minor in communications and was a three time PFL academic honor roll recipient. Trey went to high school at Pittsburgh Central Catholic where in 2008 he was ranked 17th in the nation at 215 pounds. Trey will pursue a master's degree in special education.

Anthony Mastrangelo – UPJ/ Pope John Paul II Projected Weight: 133/141
Anthony Mastrangelo transfers into Seton Hill from UPJ. He wrestled three years at Pitt Johnstown and made Dean's List twice. He wrestled for Pope John Paul II High School. While there he was a three-year starter.

Jake Smith – Penn Trafford High School – Projected Weight: 184
Jake Smith comes in from local high school Penn Trafford. This past season he was a sectional place winner and a WPIAL qualifier. He was a Bob Burmister Scholarship award winner. At Seton Hill Jake plans to major in Business and compete at 184 pounds.

Justin Smith – Penn Trafford High School – Projected Weight: 157
Justin smith also comes in from Penn Trafford where he was a captain on the wrestling team his senior year. Justin was a two time section place winner, a two time WPIAL qualifier and had two seasons in which he scored over 100 team points. Justin was a Bob Burmister Scholarship award winner and plans to compete at the 157-pound weight class.

Dylan Davis – Greater Latrobe High School – Projected Weight: 285
Another recruit from local powerhouse Greater Latrobe, Davis comes to Seton Hill after being a two time state qualifier at the 220-pound weight class. Dylan placed third in the WPIAL and was a WPIAL runner up. He finished fourth at the prestigious Powerade Tournament. He plans to compete at the heavyweight weight class for the Griffins.

Dallas Baciak – Wheeling Park High School – Projected Weight: 125/ 133
Dallas comes out of Wheeling Park High School West Virginia. He finished his career with a 128 – 14 record, was a four time state qualifier, two-time runner up and concluded his high school career by winning the 2015 West Virginia State Championship. He was 44 – 0 during his senior campaign, a team captain and West Virginia Athlete of the Year. Dallas plans to major in business at Seton Hill and will look to compete in the upcoming years at 125 or 133 pounds.

Brennan Coles – Southmoreland High School – Projected Weight: 174
Brennan Coles comes to Seton Hill from Southmoreland High School. Brennan was 29-14 during his senior season. He finished second in the section and third in the WPIAL. Southmoreland had there most successful season in years during Brennan's senior year of 2014-2015.

Luke Shaffer – Greater Latrobe High School – Projected Weight: 165/ 174
Yet Another pick up for the Griffins out of Greater Latrobe High School is Luke Shaffer. Luke is a two time Westmoreland Coutny Tournament place winner, a two time sectional place winner, two time WPIAL qualifier and a Disney Duals All American. He was a starter for Greater Latrobe when they finished second in the state as a team and he plans to pursue a degree in elementary education and special education.

These recruits join two early signees:
Jackson Stanford – Cumberland Valley High School – Projected Weight: 285
Jackson will join the Griffins from traditional high school wrestling powerhouse Cumberland Valley. He is projected to wrestle at Heavyweight. He was a 2014 state qualifier that included a win at the PIAA AAA State Tournament. He is a two time Sectional Runner Up and has a fourth place finish in District Three. Jackson plans to major in Education or Social Studies while at Seton Hill.

Austin Griffiths – Southmoreland High School – Projected Weight: 125
Austin is a local recruit from Southmoreland High School in Westmoreland County. Austin was 109-16 in his three-year high school career. He qualified for the state tournament on three occasions and placed third and fifth. He is also a southwest regional champion. Austin is looking to major in business and compete at 125 pounds.
