Fairfax Va.- George Mason University’s wrestling team has announced their complete recruiting class for the upcoming 2016-2017 campaign. In addition to fall signees Victor Echeverria, Creeden Lumpp and Garrett Tingen, the team has added Phillip Stolfi, Eli Spencer, Lio Quezada, Kyle DiNapoli, Devin Rolon, Dante Wiles, Darius Wiles and Trevor Mello.

“Our newest Patriots are going to get people talking,” head coach Joe Russell said. “This is a great group of student-athletes and we expect them to help lead Mason Wrestling in a positive direction on and off the mat. This group is capable of doing great things and will be vying for time on the mat as soon as they arrive on campus.”

Stolfi hails from Souderton High School in Harleyville, Pa. and is projected to be in the 184 pound weight division. Stolfi was the captain of his high school team and has 75 career wins with 34 pins. He was a state-qualifier his junior season and was a 2015 Disney Duals All-American.

Spencer is from Stuttgart High School in Germany and is projected to compete in the 184 or 197 pound weight class. Spencer is the European champion and reigning Stars and Stripes Wrestling Athlete of the Year. Spencer won consecutive individual European championships at 195 pounds after joining the powerhouse-wrestling program from Incrilik, where he earned Stars and Stripes Wrestling Athlete of the Year for two consecutive seasons. Spencer was a team captain his junior and senior year and posted a 29-0 record with all wins coming by pin. Spencer went 70-5 in high school and earned All-American status when he finished in fourth place at the prestigious NHSCA High School Nationals.

Quezada comes from Handley High School in Handley, Va. and is projected to wrestle in the 133 or 141 pound weight division. Quezada was a team captain for three years, a three-time state finalist and two-time state champion. Quezada accumulated 177 career wins with 99 of them coming by fall, and holds his school’s record for most wins. Quezada is also a member of National Honor Society.

The next Mason signee is DiNapoli who hails from Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner, N.J. His projected weight class is either 125 or 133 pounds and DiNapoli finished his high school career with a record of 129-28. DiNapoli is a three-time state qualifier, two-time All-Area First Team member and was named the 2016 Hunderton County Wrestler of the Year.

Rolon is another New Jersey wrestler who graduated from Delran High School in Delran, N.J. Rolon is projected to compete at 197 pounds and in his senior year posted a 33-7 record, which was good enough to qualify for the state tournament. Rolon was voted Burlington County’s Senior of the Year and will add depth to the higher weight classes at Mason.

Dante and Darius Wiles are twin brothers who will be joining Mason in the fall. The brothers are both graduates of Lake Braddock High School and hail from Sprinfield, Va. Dante earned a 120-4 high school record while Darius tallied a 130-22 mark in high school. Darius is a state champion while both brothers are two-time state finalists. Dante is projected to compete in either the 125 or 133 pound weight division while Darius is projected to wrestle in the 133 or 141 weight class.

Mello, Mason’s final signing, also hails from the Commonwealth of Virginia and is from Gainesville, Va. where he attended Battlefield High School. Mello is projected to compete in the 125 or 133 weight division and compiled a career record of 100-28. Mello earned All-American status at the Junior Nationals and is a two-time Virginia state place winner.

With eleven incoming recruits, Mason now has valuable depth and will look to build on the 2015-2016 wrestling season.
