Tough draws for our Midlands guys. Looking forward to seeing how the freshman do facing stiffer competition.

Dan Moran gets to wrestle the #2 in the country at 133 in his own wrestling room and draws the #1 at 133 in his first "big" college tournament match.... fun

If LoBeck wins his first match, his second match against #3 seed Korbin Myers should be a good one.....

Pomrinca draws the #2 seed in his first match, not lucky for him but Stickley probably not too thrilled with that draw either.........

Gentile gets a bye right into a match against the #3 seed Cash Wilcke from Iowa and if he somehow gets by that he gets either #11 seed Brucki from Princeton or #6 seed Ritter from Wisconsin (I like Brucki's chances against Ritter from what I've seen)

Those are just a couple of the interesting things I see in brackets for Lehigh guys........ they also have Suriano and Lee on opposite sides of the bracket for potential finals matchup

The Lock Haven Classic is also scheduled for today. Brackets aren't up yet on Flo; Gimp's sign-in page was last updated yesterday around 5:30 and there are no Lehigh entries. Bucknell's sending a large contingent including some of their starters but that's it for the EIWA.

Things can always change before the action starts, I guess, so I'll check on it later.

8:55 AM: Brackets are up -- no Lehigh entrants.

**** Will be interested in seeing how Matt Parker does against stronger competition. He gets 14th seed Hellickson of Harvard then 3rd seed Bresser of Ore. St. Don't know much about Hellickson but have to think Matt has a chance. Bresser is not over big but is extremely fast. Good opportunity and will see if Matt's 11-0 record is a true measure of his potential as a True Frosh.

Lock Haven brackets are up on Floarena, don't see any Lehigh wrestlers......or many wrestlers period.... (sorry JDALU75 just caught your 8:55 am update)

In the 165 lb bracket there are 8 wrestlers, 4 of which are from Old Dominion.... and that is not the smallest bracket by any means (5 wrestlers at one weight, 7 wrestlers in a couple others).....

Hellickson is an Iowa State champ in his 3rd. year for the Harvards. Russo pinned him at the Bearcat, but that doesn't mean Russo's a lock in the rematch, as Hellickson beat Akins at the same tournament. Akins is one of Buffalo's best guys and he shut out Russo in Buffalo. Hellickson also took JR Wert from Rider to the 2nd. TB in OT, so a Parker win would be a good one.

The level of competition at the Midlands is still pretty insane. If you look up the unseeded guys Lobeck and Hoffman are facing, they're both blue chip red shirts with HS accomplishments out the wazoo...

Nice win by Jimmy Hoffman over the 4-time Montana state champ and top 50 recruit. I guess a high-placing PA recruit ain't such a bad thing to have. :)

Next up is Henry Pohlmeyer

Parker loses 6-1. He looked to be very agressive but out muscled.

Parker did not look very good. Couldn't get off from bottom or finish shots. The level of competition is much higher at midlands than the tournaments he previously wrestled.

Hellickson looked like he sucked down to 125 (successfully, I might add  )... but Parker was at least, the same height.
If you're gonna loose, do it early in the career and learn from that.

Sure enough, as evidence as we saw... the two single legs that Harvard got, put Parker's leg just where he wanted and finished off for the two TD's... the difference in the bout. When Matt couldn't score the escape at the end of the 1st, I suspected that he was in for a rough go.
Put this match away as an experience and grow from there.

This may just be a coincidence... but is Harvard's Nolan Hellickson any relation to former Ohio State wrestling coach & '76 Olympic medalist Russ Hellickson?
(Inquiring minds want to know! :) )

So far, no apparent link to Russ... BUT there's a cousin who is a MLB player (check the Harvard Bio Link:http://www.gocrimson.com/sports/wrest/2015-16/bios/hellickson_nolan?view=bio )
