Meyer finished second at 152, losing 9-1 to two time PIAA 2A champ Justin McCoy from Chestnut Ridge, who's heading to Virginia.

Elijah Jones of Boyertown won the 195 pound championship 3-0.

Despite no champions, P-burg finished second as a team to Chestnut Ridge, 168.5 to 157.5.

32 schools competing in the tournament.

So if Justin McCoy got into Virginia he certainly would have been Lehigh material. We need blue chips like him in our stable. Congrats to Boyertown champ.

Meyer lost 9-1 to McCoy. That is a big hurdle to overcome at the college level but McCoy is 2 time PA champ material like Karem was & he is showing why that matters as a college freshman. Similarly, Karem chose Bucknell out of the chute—maybe McCoy will see the light before next September?

Apparently the paper coverage froze after the Freese fall. :D

Of note was Elijah's three falls in total time of 4:45 leading to his 3-0 finals win. Third place went to a guy who lost 2-1 in the semis before placing 3rd, with his 4 wins via three F's and a TF. As for "we need more guys like McCoy" that's as obvious as the fact that we're loaded there. If he wants a clearer shot at starting, that's obviously VIrginia - which also happens to be a very high-ranked academic school and campus. Pining over him is wasted space - and a reminder that we already have landed terrific prospects or we wouldn't be ranked 5th with only Cruz graduating.

Just for the record, Lehigh was in the mix for McCoy. We may actually have been his first visit. He cancelled his visit with Cornell after visiting Virginia and VA Tech.
Virginia is loaded with Western Pennsylvania wrestlers. Apparently it made him feel like home. We win some and lose some and we never know what the future holds.

He, McCoy, was, of course a two year team-mate of Burkett, so of course we were aware of him.

I know the discussion of McCoy unintentionally makes it sound like a dig at Meyer, but I like what little video I've seen of Meyer. He's very aggressive and that sometimes gets him in trouble, particularly against very powerful guys, but he has pretty good skills and I think he has a nice potential upside for college.

.... Good post; coupla other NJ guys were like that, never won NJ states despite high seeds: John "Biff" Van Doren, who struggled on his feet frosh yr (forcing into starting and never got to r/s). EIWA 4; dnq ncaa. Soph yr got hammered in EIWA Finals by Clint Matter, Penn, who owned John. But never placed nationally, vs. JVD's NCAA 3,5. Was ranked betw 25-30 as soph before going 6-1 for 3rd, twice beat #1 seed, brother of John Smith. Was a td machine for last 3 yrs. FYI, "Biff" isn't living up to his nickname, working overtime handling quality details of AIrbus manufacturing in Long Beach, his beloved surfing locale.
The other was Dave Esposito; EIWA 4,3; Rd12 as soph, NCAA 3,2 after r/s in Yr 3. These two + Mike Lieberman and Hatchett are incredible stories, reminding all of us that patience is virtually essential, not just a virtue. I'm pretty sure most of us were more patient as sports fans when we were younger, before our brains got clogged with "too much" favorable history.

Does anyone have a list of holiday tournaments where our recruits are participating?

Merry Christmas everyone.

Athens has been in two individual tournaments, but shows no more, Looks like Burkhart has a 3rd and a 5th
Boyertown has upcoming, Governor Mifflin Tourney, this week, and Escape the Rock, 1-13 and 1-14
Southern Columbia has the Trojan Wars (12/29-30), The SoCo Scuffle (1/6), Escape the Rock, New Oxford (1/19-20)
