197 & 165

Assuming Kutler/Preisch stay put at their weights which probably isn’t that a big assumption anymore with both guys beating top 5 opponents as well as holding their own against the returning national champion. It leaves us 165 (Walter/Wolf) and 197 (Jacobsen/Weiler) as the only weights up in the air. I’m strongly in Schuyler’s camp at 149 if healthy so IMO 149 isn’t a question.

Like all four guys, all four have their different upsides.

Cole Walter - Solid as hell. Strong positionally/fundamentally sound. Not going to surprise anyone usually but is almost always in every match. Struggles with taller guys and got stuck on bottom a lot especially at EIWAs last yr. ceiling - blood round, floor NCAA Qualifier.

Wolf - High motor. Funky as anyone in the country. Can surprise many just ask Meyer from Iowa. But lacks the tight/solid fundamentals that gets him in trouble sometimes. It also puts him in spots to pull off big time upsets when they work out. Ceiling - 2-3wins at national, floor - NCAA Qualifier

Weiler - Funky wrestler that has good offense from his feet and can score from top or bottom position. Still a bit undersized at 197 but what can you do with RP at 184. Guy was one of the top HS recruits coming out and 1yr from recovering from major injury his SR year. Ceiling - Blood Round, floor - NCAA Qualifier.

Jacobsen - guy is murderers row in the top position. Has freakish strength even though not a big 197er. And is a big cradle/pinner from top. Lacks offense from his feet yet though. Ceilings by NCAA Qualifier, Floor - No Show at Nationals.

Like I said I like all 4 and support whoever suits up wholeheartedly. But for my money right now I’d take Weiler and Walter. Who you got?

Good one - very intellectual, took a couple of seconds to register.

Almost up there with John Belushi's line from Animal House:

"Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??"

I'm with Ike ... I like any wrestler who suits up wholeheartedly (and enjoyed Gimp's Spock-like reply)

I would really like to see Weiler wrestle up at 197 a bit and maybe start building himself up.

>>>>>>>>>>Weiler had better results than Jake at the Journey, incl a win over AU's ranked 197 and a competitive match vs VT's top five ranked 197.

We'll see if both guys get a match on Sunday and I anticipate both will be entered at the Scuffle--- which could go a long way toward deciding the ultimate starter.

Side question for pin machine-----how could Walter have won the dual for Lehigh? Best he could have managed was 2 more team points.

Lehigh 27-8 over #4 Mich. It's a great time to be a Lehigh wrestling fan.

Both Penn's 197 (Mattiace-ranked #10 by Intermat) and Drexel's (Loiseau-ranked #20 by Intermat) will be good challenges. As pointed out, Weiler has beaten American's Kasunic (Intermat ranked #12) already.

If they are splitting the matches I'd go with Weiler against Drexel and Jakobsen against Penn.
