Lehigh Penn State

Postby peter1977 » Thu Nov 16, 2017 11:16 am

I am curious if anyone thinks Lehigh can win a match against Penn State at 149 and above.

The only one I can possibly see winning is Kutler.

197 could also be competitive depending on who is wrestling.

We had little chance of winning last season against Virginia Tech at 125 (#2-ranked opponent) and 174 (#1-ranked). But our guys showed up anyway.

The goal for Lehigh's 149 lb. entry is to leave the match with all limbs intact.

If the match was at Stabler, definitely.
I'm afraid that wrestling at the PPL Center will make this a Penn State home match.
I hope that I'm wrong but the extra capacity at the PPL Center will be filled by Penn State fans.
In Stabler, there is usually about 200 undergrads attending.
I am curious if there will be any bus service for students from Bethlehem.
Does the PPL Center get a share of the $7.50 for parking at Linden St. garage?
I hope that Lehigh will be receiving significant revenue for using this venue.

This is a lot different than the match against Virginia Tech. I do think Kutler could win, but that's about it. Heavyweight is a big longshot, but possible, after that its extremely unlikely in my opinion.

Bo Nickal, Vincenzo Joseph, Jason Nolf and Zain Retherford are all ranked number 1, and they are all solid number 1's. Matt McCutcheon is number 4, but also very seasoned and solid.

If Lehigh can win first 3 bouts and Kutler can pull off the upset that would be a great showing.

Is/will McCutcheon be healthy? Obviously he would be heavily favored if ready to go. But I have seen some speculation about - Cassar or Rashaad., at least for now.

McCutcheon is not injured. He lost the wrestle-off to Cassar.

I’ll take Kutler over Hall. Keep in mind that Preisch was headed for a win v Hall last year until he got caught in a late mixer. If Kutler > Preisch, then my $$$ is on Jordan.

For the Michigan match, I had Lehigh favored to win only one match with Michigan favored
to win five and four tossups. However, our lineup came to wrestle and we celebrated a
great win.

For Penn State match : If the match starts at 125, I believe Lehigh is favored to win two , PSU four and
four tossups. To make matters worst, I believe the PPL Center will be a hostile environment for LEHIGH.
Since I am praying for lightning to strike twice, I will duplicate my Michigan wardrobe for the match.

I hope that my LEHIGH fellow fans will join this 68 year old alumnus in making noise again for our team.
I was in Grace Hall for the 1968 Upset and I do believe that it could happen again.

Last time I checked my abacus, PPL will be a lot less hostile than us having 250 fans at PSU.

Am sure our team will show more cajones than you, SAM :P

The match last year at BJC was not all that hostile, to us, not Like REC Hall 2010,2012,2016 - and really all the REC hall, matches since maybe 1981, when we often had 1-2000 fans, generally closer to the mat. I remember a couple of kids tried to start a "we are" cheer. It immediately died. The 7,000 extra folks were almost all just really good wrestling fans.

So what do you all think? We take 125, 133, possibly 141, Kutler wins if he's as good as I think he is, maybe a close loss if he's just "very good" as the rankings suggest. Preisch is a possibility. Never can tell. Obviously the team was very fired up against Michigan, hope that the same team shows up on Sunday. :)

My optimistic view... We take:
125
133
141
165, if Joseph is still out of the lineup (PSU board seems to hint this may be the case)
174

PSU wins on the basis of bonus at 149, 157

Meet will likely start at 125, so we should score first, and bonus there.

I know the transitive property does not really apply as to who should be favored, at 197, but it does imply we should not consider the weight a certain loss.

If some how we could tie bouts and bonus, and we start at 125.
