In terms of fleeting, I only wish that OSU's attendance and mat success were more mercurial. The Buckeyes have out-ranked us in home att for most of the last decade and for most young wrestlers those are the most relevant years. We're still the best small school in home crowds but haven't cracked 2,500 in average since Stabler first opened. Y'all remember Stabler, right ?

Year--Rk---Avg----Top
2002--12-- 1,300-- 2,472
2003--11-----946-- 1,515
2004---9-- 1,522-- 1,864
2006---8-- 1,343-- 3,022
2007--15-- 1,064-- 2,354
2008---5-- 2,681-- 5,341
2009---9-- 1,552-- 3,146
2010---7-- 1,822-- 3,000
2011--10-- 1,521-- 2,765
2012---3-- 3,126-- 5,684
2013---4-- 2,834-- 6,518
2014---6-- 2,386-- 4,412
2015---4-- 4,387-- 6,558
2016---4-- 3,685-- 5,650
2017---3-- 5,880--15,338

We do ..... not sure the athletics department does.

I would love to see Lehigh host a tournament like the old Sheridan one. Stabler was specifically built to accommodate 3 mats. Either individual or a dual one with 8 teams.

...re: the attendance figures shown above I would imagine they do not reflect Lehigh's home attendance only but are likely home and away since the "top" number last year was probably Lehigh vs Penn State at the Bryce Jordan Center ... and the alternate year 6,000 plus (2013 and 2015) were likely at Rec Hall.. correct?...

Great comment by Wally. Stabler used only for Penn State shows zero marketing creativity. Michigan & Oklahoma this year are 2 additional opportunities to promote the sport. Michigan should be ranked top 5 & is in on Lafayette weekend--What more could you ask for. Oklahoma offers a great way to end the season on a high note against a historic legendary program that we should beat. Should be the year for new university Marketing company to show if they are worth their salt!!!

KTG wins the Heading MIA Award.

Since I clearly posted that Lehigh hadn't cracked 2,500 avg since the 1980's, I was obviously defending OSU from any thoughts that their attendance might be fleeting. They, not we, have made a habit of cracking the Top 5 in avg attendance like we used to routinely from the mid-50's thru the early '80's (there are no consistent Lehigh stats for seasons before the 1930's. The national season att research data was initiated by me in 2001-02. I also began compiling the all-time indiv dual database around the same time, relying heavily on issues of AWN which began in 1955-56. It's still hard to believe that no one bothered before then, although obviously time consuming for others to consider. When you have Jay Hammond as peer and mentor on database work, you don't complain, you just start researching until a finish line appears. Took several years incl other sources.

Perhaps the most stunning shift in academic campuses in college wrestling history

Anyone recall a similar situation? Maybe Matt Greenberg moving from Columbia to EIWA 2 for SUNY-Ithaca in 2002? (ok,ok, just kidding); more like Ryan Flores from Columbia to American
